Frequently Asked Questions

What do we mean by breathable?

Breathability is a term used within the building industry to describe how a substrate allows water molecules and air molecules to pass through it. Breathability ratings are identified by an ‘SD’ value – Emperor Masonry Paint has a rating of 0.06. This show that the product is at the top end of breathability ratings.

How have Emporer Paint products been tested?

All Emperor Paint products have been tested to conform to BS-EN ISO 15148 to show a reduction in thermal conductivity through all absorbent surfaces.

What is the coverage of these products?

It varies on different substrates, but generally our products have a spreading rate of approximately 4-5m² per litre. Specific details about the coverage of each of the products can be found on the datasheet, which can be downloaded on the product page.

Can you apply Emperor Paint over pre-painted bricks and substrates?

Yes, you can apply Emperor Masonry Paint over previously painted surfaces.

How do you apply Emperor Paint products?

Emperor Paint products are applied predominantly by airless spray after appropriate cleaning and preparation of the relevant surfaces. They may also be applied with a paint roller. Specific details about how to prepare the surface and how to apply the products can be found on the datasheet, which can be downloaded on the product page.

Can I apply Emperor Paint In low temperatures?

Yes, but it cannot be applied in temperatures less than 5°C.

Does it dry matt or shiny?

Emperor Masonry Paint dries with a matt finish.

How soon after raining can it be applied?

Once the surface is completely dry, which depends on the air temperature at the time.

Can Emperor Paint products be used on interior walls?

Although the Emperor Paint range of coatings has been designed for external use, there is no reason why they could not be used on interior walls.

Does it alter the appearance of the walls?

Emperor Masonry Paint does change the appearance of your walls to reflect the colour of your choice.

How long does it take to start working?

This obviously depends on the environmental conditions at the time of application, but it would be typical for Emperor Masonry Paint to take up to 2-3 weeks in colder conditions to fully show the beading effect of the coating.
