Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it necessary to use Emperor Cleaner?
Emperor Cleaner must be used as part of the preparations before applying Emperor Masonry Creme or Emperor Masonry Paint. This is to ensure that the surface you are intending to cover with one of the top coats is clean and free of dirt and green growth.
When do I apply Emperor Cleaner?
The surfaces must be dry before you apply the Cleaner. Brush off any visible dirt and green growth with a stiff brush before applying the Cleaner.
How do I apply the Cleaner?
Use a regular pump sprayer. Apply to dry surfaces in temperatures above 5°C. Allow it to dry and be absorbed into the surface of the building – it is advised that you leave it for a minimum of 2 hours. If you are intending to use Emperor Masonry Creme, wash the surface after 2 hours with a hose to remove any residue and then leave to dry again. This is not necessary if you are intending to use Emperor Masonry Paint as the coloured paint will cover any residue. Always avoid working in direct sunlight on hot days – it is much better to work in the shade.
What would happen if I chose not to use the Cleaner first?
You would be applying the Masonry Creme or coloured Masonry Paint to dirty surfaces. This will impair the performance of the products and as such they will not be guaranteed to last for 25 years.
How much area is a 5 litre tub likely to cover?
The product is supplied ready for use. There is no need to add water or thin the product in any way. A 5 litre tub will cover up to 30 square metres depending on the surface being covered.
What if I get it on surfaces other than the walls?
Wash the affected area with hot soapy water and a cloth.
Is the product safe and easy to use?
We would always recommend that care is taken when using it. Disposable gloves and goggles are advised, particularly if there is any breeze or wind, to protect yourself from spray back. If you do get any Cleaner onto your skin, wash immediately with warm, soapy water.
