When choosing a paint for the outside of your home you want one that will prevent water entering your home, but also allow moisture that is present within the wall to naturally escape, keeping your home dry. The reality is however, the majority of standard masonry paints in the UK do not provide both.
Water vapour molecules are incredibly small at around 0.0000001 mm (one ten-millionth of a millimetre). Raindrops, by contrast typically range from 0.5 to 4 mm in diameter and can be as large as 6 mm during heavy rainfall (Royal Meteorological Society).
This means raindrops are between 1.8 million and 21 million times larger than water vapour molecules.
This difference in size is how nano-technology can ensure rainwater cannot pass through the surface, while water vapour crucially can.
1. Repels Water
At a microscopic level, our formulation is comprised of millions of pyramids that are invisible to the naked eye. Within this web of pyramids is an open-pore structure. When these pores align with the natural pores that are present on the exterior walls of your home, the essential pathways for water vapour to naturally pass through the substrate are preserved.
