- Must be applied to all bare or unpainted masonry surfaces

Optimum Performance
- Unlike standard primers, Dark Primer contains the same nano-technology as our paint – it works with the paint and not against it
- Dark Primer has been specially formulated to work in combination with Dark by Emperor Paint for optimal performance

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it necessary to use Dark Primer?
Bare, unpainted surface must be primed using Dark Primer before painting to ensure that the Dark by Emperor Paint is not absorbed into the masonry. Not using a primer before apply paint will mean you can achieve a patchy finish and can reduce the durability.
Is it always necessary to apply the Primer?
It is always beneficial to apply the Primer to bare, absorbent surfaces. It is not always necessary to apply it to already painted surfaces that show no surface breakdown.
How Do I Apply The Primer?
Use a paint roller, brush or pump sprayer. Apply to dry surfaces in temperatures above 5°C. Always avoid working in direct sunlight on hot days – it is much better to work in the shade.
What is the difference between Dark Primer and Emperor Exterior Primer?
Not all paint is made the same. Our Emperor Masonry Paint and Dark by Emperor Paint are two different formulations, meaning they need a primer that is specifically designed to work with them. While both designed to achieve the same job as a primer, they are not interchangeable due to their unique formulations.
