Our unique super hydrophobic technology causes rainwater to bead and roll straight off the surface, reducing water absorption by up to 96%. This keeps your walls drier for longer, protecting your home from the damaging effects of the weather while helping to prevent penetrating damp.

Testing confirmed that Emperor Masonry Paint and Emperor Masonry Creme are highly breathable, with SD values of just 0.01 and 0.03 respectively. To put that in context, generally by British Standards any material with an SD value below 0.5 is considered breathable. The SD values of Emperor Paint products in contrast were found to be comparable to the breathability of traditional limewash.

We took our masonry products to a UKAS accredited laboratory for independent testing to determine whether they retain heat. The results showed that brick walls treated with Emperor Masonry Paint and Emperor Masonry Creme were up to 6°C warmer on average than untreated brick walls.

Testing was carried out by Sonnergy, a leading independent specialist testing laboratory in accordance with ASTM E1920-01, the internationally recognised standard for measuring solar reflectivity.
The results showed that Emperor Masonry Paint in the colour white reached a Solar Reflectance Index value of 86%, a level usually seen in specialist high-reflectance coatings. For your home, that means walls absorb less heat in summer, rooms stay cooler and the surface takes less strain throughout even the hottest days.
