Dark by Emperor Paint

Product Datasheet

‘Dark’ by Emperor Paint is a brand-new formulation designed to provide a higher quality alternative to standard masonry paint for those looking for dark shades.

Dark by Emperor Paint

Finish

Semi-Matt

Composition

Water-based, acrylic-resin.

Initial Surface Condition

There may be general airborne contamination including dirt, carbon emissions, moss, lichen etc.

Preparation

Wash the wall areas using a low pressure power washer, removing as much contamination, moss and lichen as possible. Check for damaged or missing pointing/mortar. Mortar joints and large cracks should be re-pointed with a suitable repair system. Allow the pointing to completely cure. Apply Emperor Exterior Cleaner on to all areas that have had moss, mould or fungal growth. Allow to dry for a minimum 3 hours at 20°C temperature. At lower temperatures the drying time will be extended. Then wash off the Emperor Cleaner with fresh water and allow to dry.

Application Conditions

Minimum temperature 5°C.

Application Method

Brush, paint roller or airless spray.

Application

Prior to commencement of the application you must ensure the surface is fully dry and it must be above 5°C. On bare, unpainted surfaces you must apply Dark by Emperor Paint Primer, which can be applied by brush, roller, low pressure pump or airless spray. Allow the Primer to dry for between 3-5 hours at 20°C – at lower temperatures it will take longer. Ensure you mix the paint thoroughly before use with a paddle.

1. Apply the first coat of Dark by Emperor Paint at approximately 4–5m² per litre. The first coat must be allowed to fully dry for a minimum of 8 hours before applying the second coat. The first coat may be diluted by up to 5% with water.

2. Apply the second coat at 4–5m² per litre and leave to dry. Ensure the second coat undiluted.

On textured surfaces, the coverage rate can be as low as 2–3m² per litre. If you are applying Emperor Masonry Paint by airless spray on to a textured surface we recommend a colleague follows with a long pile roller to spread the coating thereby optimising the coverage.

Storage

Must be stored in dry, frost free conditions preferably at room temperature.

Restrictions

At 20°C the product is touch dry in approx 2 hours. It can be recoated after approx 8 hours at 20°C temperatures. When the temperature is below 5°C it should not be applied. Avoid painting in direct sunlight when temperatures are above 25°C. Cannot be applied to elastomeric painted surfaces or retaining walls. Not recommended for lime render, silicone render, sandstone or limestone. In these cases, use Emperor Masonry Paint.

Cleaning

Clean equipment with warm soapy water.
