Cutting In With The Prestige Painter

Q&A with The Prestige Painter

Kevin Brown, known in the trade as The Prestige Painter, has built a reputation not only for his decorating skills but also for the way he shares them online.

By opening up the day-to-day of a decoratorโ€™s life, Kevin has connected with thousands of people, from fellow professionals to potential clients, and become a trusted voice in the industry.

In this Q&A, he talks about how social media has shaped his business, the opportunities it has created, and his advice for decorators looking to build their own presence.

Have you seen your success on social media translate into overall success for your business?

โ€œYes, definitely – in two ways! Facebook has been amazing for getting local clients. Itโ€™s actually where my decorating business started, and most of my work has come from sharing posts there and happy customers recommending me.”

“Instagram, on the other hand, has been my go-to for brand work. Itโ€™s where I really found my feet as a content creator and started building connections with brands who love the kind of visual, story-led content I create.”

For decorators nervous to show themselves on camera, whatโ€™s your one piece of advice?

“Practice, practice, practice, the more you do it the easier it gets. You are your brand so its vital that people see you and can connect with you. Start small just filming yourself carrying out decorating, and move on to starting to talk on camera – use an app that will help with prompts and a short script rather than trying to remember what you want to say.”

“Each time you do this you will get better and more confident at it and your social media will definitely grow as a result as your audience see you.”

Your content feels both professional and personal – how do you balance the two?

“I try to keep things real and relatable – people love seeing the finished results, but they also want to know whoโ€™s behind the brush! I think itโ€™s all about finding that sweet spot between showing the quality of the work and letting a bit of personality shine through. It helps build trust and keeps the content engaging without it feeling too polished or too salesy.”

Whatโ€™s your process for filming and editing videos quickly while working?

“Iโ€™d love to say thereโ€™s a quick hack – but the truth is, creating engaging Reels takes time. I capture clips throughout the week as I work, trying to catch those, in-the-moment bits that people love. Then I set aside one dedicated day a week to focus purely on editing, planning new ideas, and chatting with brands about upcoming content.”

Where do you get inspiration for post ideas?

“I get inspiration from everywhere – not just within the decorating world. Iโ€™m always watching Reels from all kinds of niches, whether itโ€™s fashion, food, or home, and thinking, how could I put a decorating spin on that? I also keep a running list of my own ideas as they pop up – usually while Iโ€™m mid-job.”

Have you noticed any specific types of content that get more engagement from potential clients or brands?

“For clients, before-and-after room makeovers definitely get the most engagement – they love seeing the transformation and the impact of the work.”

“For brands, itโ€™s all about professional content that shows me delivering the service, plus point-of-view reels. Being in front of the camera and staying authentic really helps build trust and connection, which brands appreciate.”

You’ve worked with some great brands – what advice would you give decorators hoping to do the same?

“Iโ€™d say the key is to be professional and consistent with what you stand for. Youโ€™re a brand in yourself, so donโ€™t just jump at any deal – go after the ones that really match with your style and values. For me, working with luxury homes means I look for premium brands that match that level of quality. Stick to what feels right for you, and the right partnerships will follow. Donโ€™t expect payment at the start – capture content and tag in your favourite brands and they will soon start to notice you.”

Weโ€™re so grateful to Kevin for sharing his experiences and practical advice. His story shows how social media, when used with authenticity and consistency, can build both a thriving business and trusted partnerships.
