Cutting In with Golden Hands Deco

When Serhii Dzombak, better known as Mr Golden Hands, moved from Ukraine to England around 15 years ago, he’d never imagined he’d become a social media inspiration to thousands of decorators across the UK.
Today, with viral reels reaching over half a million views, Serhii is one of the fastest-growing creators in the painting and decorating industry.
We sat down with Serhii to talk about where it all began, journey on social media and experience building a business.
You wear golden gloves in all of your videos – where did the idea come from?
“When I was a kid, she’d always tell me I had ‘golden hands’ whenever I helped her or made something well. That stuck with me. One day, I put on a pair of gold gloves and painted a window — and it caught people’s attention. That’s when I realized it could become a strong visual identity, so I started building on it.”
Your social media is funny while still showing real skill – how do you find the balance between entertaining and showing off your craft?
“I still don’t know the perfect balance between humour and serious content. I often wonder whether I should post only high-end, serious work – and I have plenty of that. But humour is a big part of who I am. I love making people laugh. With everything going on in the world, especially with the war in my country, humour keeps me grounded. It keeps me sane and motivated to keep going.”

Where do you get inspiration for your social media content?
“I wake up thinking about content and go to sleep thinking about it too. I’m always writing things down, sharing ideas with my family and friends. The truth is, I have so many ideas, I just don’t have time to film them all.”
How do you manage the juggle between work, social media and everything else?
“Family is everything to me. I try hard to give them as much time as I can – but honestly, I wish I had more. Right now, I’m driven to build something of my own: attract my own clients, grow my Instagram and TikTok, and turn it into something bigger. Everything I do is for my two kids. I believe if you work hard, it will pay off. And I’m lucky – my wife is my greatest supporter, my best friend, and honestly, like a manager who helps me with everything behind the scenes.”
Have you noticed your social media presence help build a connection with customers before they meet you?
“I believe people should see the real me. Some will connect, some won’t – and that’s okay. I’m still searching for my ideal clients. But one thing is non-negotiable: I take my work very seriously. People who’ve worked with me know that I’m extremely particular about the finish and the smallest details.”
What’s it been like stepping in front of the camera and representing your business so personally?
“I wasn’t confident on camera at all – especially with English. I used to feel really awkward. But over time, I realised I didn’t need to act or pretend. Being myself worked better than trying to be perfect.”

Has engaging with other decorators helped you on your journey?
“I’ve been in the UK for a long time, but only around 10 months ago – when my page started growing – I began to discover how massive and inspiring the UK decorating community really is. Following other painters, seeing their work and ideas – it helped me a lot. Everyone has their own tools, techniques, and style. It’s incredible to see.”
